About This Site
Thirty million people in the United States suffer from some form of chronic breathing disorder; bringing the total health care cost to $85 billion. The death rate from lung disease continues to rise, while the number of deaths from heart disease and cancer decline.
The simple and seemingly automatic act of breathing is too often taken for granted. Numerous disorders may affect the control of breathing or the lungs and supporting structures, producing air hunger or shortness of breath. Many lung diseases can be avoided by eliminating cigarette smoking and air pollution.
Dr. Francis V. Adams believes that an informed patient is a healthier patient. He is the author of The Asthma Sourcebook and The Breathing Disorders Sourcebook, comprehensive guides for patients with lung disease.
This website is about more than these two helpful books. The Health Watch page of this site provides the latest information on breathing disorders. Follow this page for information on new medications that have or are about to be released and current research on lung diseases. Click on Favorite Links to conect to sites that provide more information as well as allergy and asthma supplies.
This site also features other books by Dr. Adams including Healing Through Empathy his new book that focuses on the doctor-patient relationship.
Healing Through Empathy has been named runner-up by Allbooks Review Editor's Choice Awards for 2004 in the category of Special Interest. It is now available in electronic book format for your Kindle or any e-book reader such as your iPhone or iPod touch.
